Consumer advocacy
If an insurer is slow, unresponsive or unfair on a vehicle claim, you have options: ask for the claim file, put your dispute in writing, and escalate to your state’s insurance regulator. These guides explain how.

When a claim stalls
Five steps if an insurer won’t respond
- 1
Ask for the claim file and valuation
Request the adjuster’s valuation report, the comparables used, and the reason for any denial, in writing. - 2
Put your position in writing
Send a short, dated letter or email with your evidence, such as an independent appraisal and repair records. - 3
Escalate inside the insurer
Ask for a supervisor or the claims manager, and keep a log of every call. - 4
File a complaint with your state
State insurance departments accept free consumer complaints and can require the insurer to respond. - 5
Watch your deadline
Every state limits how long you have to sue for property damage; talking with the insurer does not pause it.

Not sure whether an appraisal will help?
The claim review is free: we look at your situation and tell you whether an appraisal is likely to help. The appraisal itself is a paid report. We help from start to finish, including a custom demand letter, and our support staff is a phone call away throughout the process.
