Idaho total loss claims
Idaho sets no damage percentage. A vehicle is a total loss when an insurer or other person pays the owner because the vehicle is deemed uneconomical to repair, and it is a salvage vehicle when the owner or insurer decides that parts and labor minus salvage value make repair uneconomical. The Idaho Department of Insurance says the insurance company makes that call. If the insurer’s value looks low, the dispute comes down to evidence: the right trim and options, fair comparable vehicles and explained condition adjustments.

An owner who keeps the vehicle must surrender the title to the Idaho Transportation Department within 30 days after the claim is satisfied and get a salvage certificate before any sale; failing to do so, or selling without telling the buyer the vehicle is totaled, is a misdemeanor.
