Mississippi total loss claims
Mississippi sets no damage percentage. A vehicle becomes a salvage vehicle when an insurance company takes it from the owner after paying a total loss claim, so the insurer's decision under the policy controls. Vehicles 10 years old or older worth $1,500 or less, and vehicles needing repair or replacement of five or fewer minor component parts, are outside the salvage definition. If the insurer’s value looks low, the dispute comes down to evidence: the right trim and options, fair comparable vehicles and explained condition adjustments.

Keeping a totaled vehicle: Mississippi title rules
An insurer that takes title after paying a total loss must get a salvage certificate of title in its name. A salvage-titled vehicle cannot be driven on Mississippi roads or tagged until it is rebuilt, inspected and retitled as Rebuilt. If the owner keeps the vehicle and the insurer does not get a salvage title, the owner may have it rebuilt and inspected, then take the insurer's letter and the inspection forms to the county tax collector to apply for a Rebuilt title and new registration.
